What is EMPEA? EMPEA is a broad-based membership organization founded in 2004 to focus on the emerging private equity markets of Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Russia. EMPEA is comprised primarily of private equity fund managers, but also includes institutional investors, service providers and others with an interest in the asset class.
EMPEA’s Core Belief: Private equity can be a critical driver of economic growth in emerging markets while simultaneously generating strong returns for investors. Despite significant differences across emerging market regions, private equity firms face important common challenges and opportunities.
EMPEA’s Mission: EMPEA’s mission is to promote greater understanding of and a more favorable climate for private equity investing in emerging markets. To achieve its mission EMPEA:
- Convenes meetings and conferences around the world that allow members, prospective investors and other interested stakeholders to network, debate and learn about key issues affecting private equity investing in emerging market countries;
- Researches, analyzes and disseminates authoritative global information on emerging markets private equity, covering industry trends, benchmarks, best practices and current market developments; and,
- Collaborates with industry partners, including national and regional venture capital/private equity associations, to strengthen the network and knowledge base of emerging markets private equity practitioners and to advocate for policy and regulatory reforms that strengthen the environment for private equity investing in these markets.
