Industry Standards

In order to provide greater consistency and transparency of information to investors, various private equity industry associations have worked together to produce guidelines for their members and the broader industry. Presented below are the limited partners, valuation, reporting and corporate governance guidelines that have been developed to promote best practice in the private equity industry.


ILPA Principles

Several global development finance institutions (DFIs) that actively invest in emerging markets private equity have publically endorsed the Institutional Limited Partners Association's (ILPA) Private Equity Principles, a set of voluntary guidelines intended to establish best practices relating to the alignment of interests between general partners and limited partners around fund terms and issues of fund governance, transparency and reporting.

Valuation Guidelines

EMPEA endorses the International Private Equity and Venture Capital Valuation Guidelines (IPEV Guidelines) and the Private Equity Industry Guidelines Group (PEIGG) valuation guidelines as acceptable methodologies for emerging markets private equity funds. See both sets of guidelines below.
